<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the signs contained in 10 sarcasm memes on the @sarcasm_only Instagram account. The signs found were analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's theory, namely triadic meaning. In sign there are 3 aspects, namely Representamen, Object, and Interpretant. This research used descriptive qualitative method. While the data from this research are sarcasm memes in the form of text and images. This study focused on memes containing sarcasm found on the Instagram account @sarcasm_only that can be attributed to everyone regardless of their gender. In the analysis, 26 signs were found. 12 signs were found in the form of images and 14 signs in the form of text. Further researchers are advised to conduct research on sarcasm memes in the form of videos. Because this study examines sarcasm memes in the form of images, some aspects such as Index are rarely found.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aimed to find out the politeness strategies used in Yes Day (2021) movie. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was the Yes Day movie that focused on the script of movie. The data were all of the requesting utterances that uttered by all of the characters of Yes Day movie. The data were analysed using Brown and Levinson (1987) politeness theory. The researcher found four types of politeness strategies; they are bald on-record, positive politeness, negative politeness, off record strategy, and no don’t do the FTA. The result of the research showed that bald on-record was the most appeared strategy in Yes Day movie. Meanwhile, off record strategy was the least used strategy in Yes Day movie.]]>

<![CDATA[This thesis is an analysis of the Drama Reasons to Be Ptetty (2008) by Neil LaBiute. The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of beauty standard impact in American culture. This analysis is also intended to expose how the contribution of fictional elements (character and action/plot) in revealing the form of the bad impact of beauty standard in American Culture. This analysis is related to the concept of feminism by Naomi Wolf.. The result of this analysis shows the female character gets the bad impact of beuaty standard which are discriminiation and oppression.]]>

<![CDATA[This research is an analysis of the novel by Jojo Moyes entitled Me Before You (2012). The objective of this research is to find out the forms of masculinity depicted in this novel. This study employs masculinity theory to analyzed the novel and supported by feminist theory and patriarchy theory. This a qualitave descritipve by using masculinity theory which supported by feminist literary theory and patriarchy ideologies. The results of this study shows there are several forms of masculinity depicted in this novel which are; strength, power, stoicism, action, control, independence and self-sufficiency. The result of this research shows that disability is the opposite of what is called masculine. A masculine man must have strength, power, stoicism, action, control, independence, self-sufficiency, male companionship, mateship and work.]]>

<![CDATA[This research to see the extent of Robin Benway's novel Far From the Tree (2017) raises the issue of defense mechanisms. The defense mechanism refers to characters who face problems with their status as adopted children. The three teenage characters in the novel experience different problems because they are adopted by different families. This analysis is related to the theory of psychoanalysis put forward by Phebe Cramer (2008). The use of theory was based on the interpretation in the text and context of the novel. The data was collected from the quotation in the novel. The data collection was in the form of sentences and paragraphs. This research is qualitative research. In this study, the defense mechanism was examined in the novel Far From the Tree. The results showed that the character of adopted adolescents uses defense mechanisms as a form of self-protection from the problems they face.]]>

<![CDATA[This study is aimed to find out (1) the discourse topics and (2) the discourse strategies from the utterances produced by Asian-Americans as the victim of the racist attack during the Covid-19 outbreak to reveal how they voice their ideologies in defending themselves and maintaining their existence in society. The researcher employs a qualitative method considering the data are in the form of written-text and also analyse the humanities and social sciences. Specifically, the researcher analysed the discourses presented in several videos from YouTube that being transcribed into written discourses. This study focuses on how Asian-Americans portray themselves and others in their discourses based on their beliefs. From seven videos being analysed, the researcher has collected 80 data that consist of the Positive-Self and Negative-Others presentation. By utilizing Van Djik’s Ideological Square, the researcher found out there are 16 discourse topics implied in Asian-Americans’ utterances, such as ‘We are also Americans’, ‘Anti-Asian-Americans is terrifying’, etc. Furthermore, there are 22 discourse strategies used by Asian-Americans in defending themselves. The study reveals Asian-Americans as the racist-victim attempt to emphasize the Anti-racism movement. Moreover, the researcher has found that several discourses consist of negative-attitude towards majorities or Americans society. ]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this analysis is to expose the issue of self-reliance in the Novel Crazy Rich Asian by Kevin Kwan (2013). The issue of self-reliance refers to the way the character when the character gets bad treatment from the people but she is able to manage it. This analysis is text-based interpretation based on the concept of Self-reliance theory proposed by Elizabeth B. Hurlock. This analysis uses fictional devices such as character, plot (conflict) and setting that contribute in revealing the issue. The result of the study reveals the woman develops her self-reliance. It can be seen through behaviour and way of thinking. ]]>

<![CDATA[Quotes are written for various types. There are quotes motivation, advice, love, religion, humor and trend. Then, quotes intended for female, male and female-male. This study analysis the transitivity in Instagram quotes made by mr. amarisoul. This study aims to find out the differences of transitivity between quotes for female, male and female-male in Instagram quotes made by mr.amarisoul. This study used the theory by Halliday & Matthiessen, Systemic Functional Linguistics as Ideational Function. There are three elements of transitivity, those are processes, participants and circumstances. The data in this study were clauses in quotes. The source of the data is quotes from account mr.amarisoul in Instagram from September to December 2021. There are 306 processes that found in 46 quotes. The dominant process that appears in quotes for female is relation process 37%. The dominant process in quotes for male is mental process with 30.3%. Then, the dominant process in quotes for female-male is material process with 54.5%. The research concludes that relation process is the most dominant process that commonly appears in quotes. The dominant participants of relation process are carrier, attribute, token and value. Based on this research, the researcher found that the quotes intended for female and male have different process. Quotes female use relation process and quotes male use mental process. Quotes have implications that can encourage and inspire people to take actions that make change in their lives. ]]>

<![CDATA[Being black and being a woman is complicated things, especially when the world has dominated by patriarchal ideology and act of racism has been known worldwide in all over the world. Black women are on the verge of getting oppression based on their gender and their ethnicity, it is called double oppression. This research objective is to examine the double oppression that happened to black women in the novel On the Come Up (2019) by Angie Thomas. Black women on the novel have particular signs of double oppression which happened on their daily basis. This research used the Intersectionality Theory proposed by Kimberlè Crenshaw (1989). The use of this theory to determine the double oppression that experienced by black women. This research also applies the five faces of oppression by Iris Marion Young (1990) which are marginalization, exploitation, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. The data collection was in the form of narrations and dialogues. The findings of this research is the black women in the novel are indeed got oppressed based on their gender and their ethnicity based on the forms of oppression even when they live in the black society. In conclusion, the black women in American society have tendency to be oppressed twice, black women still have a war against oppression even in this modern day when everyone should be treated equally.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to examine the similarities and differences of meaning in language style used ideational metafunction in Kick Andy and Mata Najwa talk show. The purpose of this research is to find similarities and differences of in meaning language style used ideational metafunction of Matthiessen (2014). The object of this research are Kick Andy and Mata Najwa talk show videos from Youtube channel. The method of this research uses descriptive qualitative research. The result of this research show two similarities and four differences in level ideational metafunction. The conclusion of this study there are more differences rather then similarities, because the differences in style are affected by different gender which are presented through lead and speech to the different ways of selection and producing of word in the ideational of metafunction.]]>
